Why Africa

01 Sep

For some things I don’t have words, for some things I think we aren’t meant to. For the things which only divine timing could have conjured up, for the things which there is no room for fear because our maker’s handiwork is so evident, for those things I have to argue that words are not enough…. and so, I mumble and babble and make hardly any sense.

Decipher my babbling thoughts and you will find a heart overflowing with nothing this world could provide. I am overwhelmed and exhausted and my own strength will not suffice, on my own I am imperfect and weak and lacking in self-control and yet… He still calls me chosen, he still calls me (and He calls you too!!) and he must be screaming so I can hear because He knows I do not listen well. What a God, that even when we don't want to listen he still cares enough to scream loudly--

And after a lot of turning my back and saying no, I said yes, and that is why you’re here and that is why I am here and babbling, because I found the strength in Him to say yes and it is good and I want you to know about it.

I’m moving to Africa for a year. I am working as an legal intern for International Justice Missions (IJM). Together with the Uganda team we will be teaching attorneys how to best represent abused children and victims of child slavery as well as prosecute the perpetrators of these violent crimes.

I didn't plan on this. In my grand scheme of life this was not where I thought I would be at this point. We don’t deserve to understand why God does the thing He does, and I am overwhelmed because I am aware that I am living the plans I never could have made for myself. What plans have you made for yourself where God took over and the outcome was a lot different than you expected? Maybe you haven’t seen the outcome yet, maybe we never will, so I am resting in Paul’s words from Ephesians 3:20 and I hope you will rest there with me.

“Now to Him who is able to do immeasurable more than all we ask or imagine according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”

Continue to seek joy in the small and simple and wait for the Lord friends.
